DURBAN - South Africa's King Shaka International and O R Tambo airports have been ranked in the top five of African airports over the past five years, Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) said on Thursday.

"O R Tambo and King Shaka International Airports were inducted onto the Airports Council International's Roll of Excellence in Airport Service Quality earlier this week," spokesman Solomon Makgale said.

The event was held at a gala dinner in Marrakech, Morocco, where 14 airports were inducted onto the "roll of excellence".

"I wish to sincerely thank each and every employee for their efforts in making sure that our passengers continue to experience high levels of service," said Acsa's acting managing director Bongani Maseko.

More than 220 airports around the world participated in the survey.
